Synopsis
Spensa’s dream was to become a pilot and be among the stars. Circumstances led her to second guess herself and settle for a standard less desirable job but due to persistence she found herself juggling with the possibility of becoming a pilot and saving the remnants of the human race.
Skyward was my first exposure to Sci-fi Fantasy and who better than Brandon Sanderson to introduce me to it. It was such a fun read and honestly I didn’t expect to care for the side characters. Even though the cast of characters were large in number, each managed to be memorable and demonstrate their unique traits. I loved everyone’s interactions with each other and appreciated that they didn’t take themselves too seriously.
Brandon’s signature writing was present in making the world of Detritus feel real and the process of flying was fun and felt like an augmented reality experience.
I didn’t have high expectations going in mainly because it is YA so I expected it to be watered down and not as epic as Brandon’s other works but colour me impressed. I will definitely be picking up the sequel next month.
